Home Security System Installation — Paddington, Brisbane
The property
A renovated Queenslander on a busy Paddington street with elevated frontage, a side access gate and a deep rear deck. The owners wanted to see the street frontage and the unseen side and rear approaches without the system looking like a commercial installation.
The assessment
Before any equipment was specified, the property was assessed to understand the real approach routes and the areas conventional camera layouts can miss.
Vulnerabilities identified
- Elevated frontage with limited street sightlines from inside
- Side gate hidden from the street and neighbours
- Rear deck accessible from a rear laneway
- No internal detection if someone did get inside
The system design
We designed a six-camera exterior layout that follows the natural approach routes around the home, paired with internal detection covering the main entry and the internal door from the under-house garage.
The CCTV layer
6 cameras were positioned to follow the natural approach routes around the property, covering each entry point before it reaches a door.
- Front eave covering the driveway, street frontage and front steps
- Side gate camera covering the full side passage
- Rear deck camera covering the laneway fence line and rear doors
- Under-house garage camera covering the internal access door
The internal layer
A motion sensor in the main living area and an entry contact on the internal garage door, tied to an internal siren. The detection layer is armed separately from the cameras, so the family can move through the home while the exterior still records.
Power & recording
Recording is handled locally on the property, with the option of an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) to help critical security equipment continue operating temporarily if mains power is interrupted.
The installation
- 01On-site property assessment to map approach routes and blind spots
- 02Camera positions marked and cabling routes planned through existing voids
- 03Discreet cable runs finished to match the renovated timber and cladding
- 04System commissioned, mobile app configured and the family walked through it
The handover
After commissioning, the system was configured for mobile viewing and the customer was walked through how to use the app, review footage and arm the internal detection layer separately from the cameras.
The result
The owners can now see every approach to the property from their phone, day or night, and have an active internal layer that responds if someone enters. The cameras sit discreetly under the eaves and read as part of the home rather than a security add-on.
