New Build - 2-Layered Security Solution — Kingston, Brisbane QLD 4114

New Build - 2-Layered Security Solution - 8MP / 4KResidentialBrisbane

The property

A newly built, two-storey home with a flat roof and no accessible roof space. The construction made cable routing challenging, requiring careful planning to achieve a discreet installation that complemented the home’s modern finishes.

The assessment

Before any equipment was specified, the property was assessed to understand the real approach routes and the areas conventional camera layouts can miss.

Vulnerabilities identified

  • Front entrance: Required camera coverage and detection at the front door.
  • Back entrance: Required coverage of the rear approach and an active deterrent.
  • Inside the home: Required motion detection and an internal alarm, including coverage of movement from the upper level towards the main living areas where valuables are stored.

The system design

We designed a two-layer security system combining exterior cameras with built-in lights and sirens, an internal entrance camera, and internal alarm detection. The layout covered the front and rear entrances while adding detection at the front door, internal stairs and living room.

The CCTV layer

Three 8MP cameras provided coverage of the main entrances:

  • Front entrance: One 8MP 180-degree panoramic camera with built-in lights and a siren, providing wide-angle coverage of the front approach.
  • Back entrance: One 8MP 180-degree panoramic camera with built-in lights and a siren, providing wide-angle coverage of the rear approach.
  • Inside the front door: One 8MP camera positioned to record activity at the internal entrance.

The internal layer

Internal detection was positioned to identify entry and movement through key areas of the home:

  • Entrance and internal stairs: A motion sensor (PIR) facing the stairs to detect people coming down from the upper level towards the main living areas where valuables are stored.
  • Front door: A door break sensor to detect a break event at the front entrance.
  • Living room: A motion sensor with a built-in camera (PIR camera), providing visual verification when motion is detected.
  • Internal siren: Positioned centrally on the ground floor to maximise its audible impact throughout the main living areas.

The internal detection layer can be armed separately from the cameras, allowing the family to move through the home while CCTV continues recording.

Power & recording

Recording is handled locally on the property. An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) provides temporary backup power to help critical security equipment continue operating if mains power is interrupted.

The installation

  1. 01
    On-site assessment
The property was assessed to map approach routes, entry points and potential blind spots.
  2. 02
    Camera positions and cable routes
Camera positions were marked and cable routes planned around the two-storey layout, flat roof and lack of accessible roof space.
  3. 03
    Discreet installation
Cable runs were completed neatly to complement the new home’s finishes.
  4. 04
    Commissioning and setup
The system was commissioned, the mobile app configured, and the family walked through how to operate it.

The handover

After commissioning, the system was configured for mobile viewing and the customer was walked through how to use the app, review footage and arm the internal detection layer separately from the cameras.

Follow-up check-ins were completed at 7 and 31 days. A 365-day check-in is planned once the system has been installed for one year.

The result

The owners can now view the front and rear approaches and the internal front entrance from their phone, day or night. Exterior cameras add lights and sirens for active deterrence, while the internal layer provides detection at the front door, stairs and living room, linked to a centrally positioned siren.

The installation complements the new home’s finishes, despite the cable-routing challenges presented by its two-storey, flat-roof construction.
