The property

Lollipops Playland & Cafe in Strathpine is a large indoor children's entertainment centre featuring extensive jungle gyms, amusement rides, dedicated play areas, a jumping castle and an on-site café.

With children, parents and staff moving throughout the venue, the property required a comprehensive CCTV system capable of monitoring its multiple activity zones, customer service areas and back-of-house facilities.

The assessment

Before recommending any equipment, SCKA assessed the venue's layout, entry points, high-traffic areas and operational requirements. The assessment focused on identifying potential blind spots, understanding movement throughout the play centre and determining how to provide effective surveillance during business hours while introducing an additional layer of active deterrence after closing.

Vulnerabilities identified

The assessment identified several key areas requiring camera coverage:

  • Main entrance: Monitoring people entering and leaving the venue.
  • Front counter and serving desk: Providing visibility over customer interactions and transaction areas.
  • Office: Monitoring access to the administrative area.
  • Children's playrooms: Improving visibility across dedicated activity spaces.
  • Main play areas: Covering high-traffic zones throughout the centre.
  • Amusement rides: Monitoring activity around the pirate ship ride, jumping castle and other attractions.
  • Jungle gyms: Positioning cameras to improve visibility around large play structures.
  • Kitchen: Providing surveillance of the food preparation area.
  • Storerooms: Monitoring access to storage and back-of-house facilities. These areas formed the foundation of a security design tailored to the venue's layout and daily operations.

The system design

SCKA designed a modern 8MP (4K) Dahua CCTV system incorporating premium 180-degree panoramic cameras strategically positioned throughout the play centre.

The wide-angle cameras were selected to provide expansive views across large indoor spaces, reducing the need for multiple narrow-angle cameras in suitable locations.

The system also incorporates active-deterrence technology, including flashing red and blue warning lights and audible sirens for after-hours protection.

Compatible cameras were configured to operate together through linked alarm events, allowing a qualifying detection event from one camera to activate the configured warning lights and sirens across the connected system.

This provides the venue with both high-resolution surveillance during operating hours and a coordinated deterrence response when the premises are closed.

The CCTV layer

High-resolution 8MP Dahua cameras were strategically installed to monitor the venue's key operational and activity areas. Camera positions included:

  • Front desk: Monitoring the main reception and customer service area.
  • Office: Providing visibility over the administrative area.
  • Main activity zone: Covering a primary section of the play centre.
  • Café: Monitoring the café and surrounding customer areas.
  • Children's play area: Providing additional visibility over a dedicated play zone.
  • Jumping castle: Monitoring activity around this attraction.
  • Pirate ship ride: Providing surveillance of the ride and surrounding area. The combination of 4K image quality and panoramic coverage gives management a clearer view of activity throughout the centre, with recorded footage available for reviewing incidents when required.

The internal layer

For after-hours security, the system uses integrated active-deterrence features rather than relying solely on passive video recording.

When the configured detection conditions are met while the system is armed, linked cameras can activate their flashing red and blue warning lights and audible sirens together.

This coordinated response is designed to draw attention to potential unauthorised activity and help discourage intruders from remaining on the premises.

The after-hours deterrence settings can be managed separately from normal daytime surveillance, allowing the venue to continue recording during operating hours without activating the warning lights and sirens unnecessarily.

Power & recording

The system records footage locally, giving the business on-site access to its CCTV recordings without relying entirely on cloud storage. Recording capacity was designed to provide approximately three months of footage under the configured recording settings, with actual retention dependent on recording activity, resolution, compression and storage usage. An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) was also incorporated to provide temporary backup power to connected critical security equipment if mains electricity is interrupted. This adds resilience to the installation and helps maintain security functionality during short power disruptions, subject to the UPS load and available battery capacity.

The installation

  1. 01
    Careful planning
SCKA completed the installation with careful consideration for the venue's existing infrastructure, operational requirements and the need to maintain a professional finish.
  2. 02
    Removal of redundant equipment
The project involved removing redundant equipment from previous CCTV installations, installing and positioning the new cameras, configuring the recording system and setting up the coordinated after-hours deterrence features.
  3. 03
    Positioning & testing
Each camera was positioned and adjusted to provide useful coverage of its designated area, with the system tested and commissioned before handover.
  4. 04
    Training & handover
Following installation, mobile viewing was configured and the customer was shown how to access live camera feeds, review recorded footage and manage the system's after-hours security settings.
  5. 05
    Ongoing check-ins
SCKA also completed follow-up check-ins at 7 and 31 days after installation, with a further 365-day check-in planned once the system reaches its first anniversary.

The handover

After commissioning, the system was configured for mobile viewing and the customer was walked through how to use the app, review footage and arm the internal detection layer separately from the cameras.

Follow-up check-ins were completed at 7 and 31 days. A 365-day check-in is planned once the system has been installed for one year.

The result

Lollipops Playland & Cafe now benefits from a modern, integrated 8MP (4K) Dahua security system designed around the unique requirements of a large indoor children's entertainment venue.

Before the upgrade, the property relied on ageing CCTV equipment, with components from several previous security systems still mounted throughout the premises. SCKA disconnected and removed the redundant equipment, replacing the fragmented setup with one modern, professionally configured CCTV system.

The upgraded installation delivers: • Comprehensive surveillance: High-resolution camera coverage across key entrances, service areas, play zones, attractions and back-of-house spaces. • Coordinated active deterrence: Linked flashing warning lights and audible sirens configured for after-hours protection. • Centralised recording: Locally stored footage that management can access when reviewing incidents. • Improved reliability: Modern equipment supported by temporary UPS backup power. • Simplified management: One integrated CCTV system with convenient mobile viewing and footage playback. • Ongoing support: Customer guidance and scheduled follow-up check-ins.

The result is a cleaner, more capable and easier-to-manage security installation, providing the business with improved visibility, accessible video evidence and a stronger after-hours security presence.

One venue. One integrated system. Complete security visibility.
